Catholic Charities USA Statement on the Passage of Immigration Reform in the Senate

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), issued the following statement on the passage of immigration reform in the Senate:
"Eleven million undocumented immigrants in our country are currently forced to live in the shadows as a result of the nation's outdated immigration system. Today's vote in the U.S. Senate is an important step forward for these millions of individuals who came to our country in search of a better life for themselves and for their families.
"While we are pleased to see the Senate's bill set forth a much needed path to citizenship, we are concerned by the potentially harmful impact the border enforcement goals could have on border communities.
"We are encouraged by the bipartisan cooperation and compromise embodied in this vote in the Senate and remain hopeful that the U.S. House of Representatives will move forward on a solution that not only establishes a pathway to citizenship, but also allow families to remain intact, provides worker protections and addresses the plight of undocumented children."
