remarkable from chomski... not a single word about what drives it all, which is fat guys with cigars who expect to make a huge living by invoking mysterious special merits in order to appropriate (and waste) what others produce (read: by exploiting other people), e.g, academic rentiers like chomsky who do not ask where their universities' "money" comes from.
capitalism turns almost everybody into an exploiter of any others who end up below him/her, and that way everybody is kept running and all is "very productive" short-term and allows capitalistic elites to mobilize enormous destructive power (e.g., to sabotage cuba and the CCCP)...
and yet the process is long-term destructive and self-destructive, e.g., when rentiers blackmail the economy and even destroy it by denying it "credit" unless "fair" earnings are guaranteed to "meritorious detentors of accumulated capital" (e.g., when their financial entanglements triggered ww2 and prompt them to re-enslave w.europe now that the red army is no more), which of course requires that bribed politicians declare the rentiers' property to be non-taxable, adducing semi-religious reasons invented by prostituted economists, jurists, and opinion makers.
indeed rentiers like chomsky, the koch bothers, etc, who expect others (the "lesser people") to work for a micro-fraction of their own hourly earnings are the real cause of the problems, not climate change, not nuclear weapons, not lack of enough gay marriages.
but getting rid of the cause of the problems won't be enough, because humans need to be whipped hard to motivate them to carry out non-creative chores (meant for "lesser people"), like working at the sewage treatment plant of a huge city
yes, capitalism's self-organizing/self-regenerating/self-compounding labor-coercion clockwork is what allows the modern pyramid building and nero behavior by its elites,
but neither the stalinist nor the g.orwell-snitching-condoning left offers a credible labor-coercion scheme alternative to that of capitalism, history's most resilient labor-coercion system, the one that replaced slavery because it's more efficient to let free slaves whip themselves back into slavery and keep enslaving each other, with the rentiers' appropriating (and wasting) most of what's produced.
