On the other hand, this is liberal alarmism with a dose of paranoia and Islamophobia. In relation to both events in Egypt and U.S. policy, it recalls the old adage that one should never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity. It also rests on the dubious (to put it mildly) proposition that normal relations with foreign governments constitute endorsement of their strategic aims and policies rather than simply a rational response to deal with those in power in order to preserve and protect our own national interests.
