EBOLA
First Case Found in US
The CDC confirmed that a man in Dallas, Texas, is the first Ebola case diagnosed in the US—and the first case discovered outside Africa.
The patient flew to Dallas on September 20 on a commercial flight from Liberia. He fell ill a few days later and was eventually admitted to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and is now isolated and in critical condition.
At a news conference yesterday, CDC Director Thomas R. Frieden, MD, MPH, said that there is “zero chance” that he infected anyone else on the flight, as he was screened for fever before leaving Liberia, but it is possible that some people were infected before he was isolated at Texas Presbyterian Hospital. The CDC is working to trace all contacts.
