Mayen's family knew something was terribly wrong as they struggled to get her to the nearest hospital. She had been in labor for some time but was so weak, she couldn't walk. By the time she was ready to deliver, Mayen was in and out of consciousness and her babies were in distress. There was no choice but perform an emergency C-section. As the second baby was born, Mayen took her last breath. She held on long enough to give life to her two children. She gave everything to make sure they came into the world - her last gift. There was no time to grieve. Mayen's sister needed to find food for these precious babies. Hearing that there may be formula at a hospital three hours away, she had to set aside her grief and leave immediately to keep the babies alive.  "My sister's lifeless body was brought out of the operating room and right behind, her baby girls.
