China to strengthen oversight of GM crops under development | Reuters Beijing
supports genetically modified organisms (GMO) technology, which it sees
as crucial to future food security. But critics have alleged the
technology could pose health risks, and while China allows imports of
some GMO crops it is yet to permit domestic cultivation of GM food
crops. The planned changes to China's safety administration regulation
do not alter its GMO policy but will increase the supervision of biotech
products under development, said Huang Dafang, professor at the
Biotechnology Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of
Agricultural Sciences.http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/04/27/us-china-gmo-idUSKBN0NI1B520150427?utm_source=The+Sinocism+China+Newsletter&utm_campaign=c95127a553-Sinocism04_28_154_28_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_171f237867-c95127a553-29615013&mc_cid=c95127a553&mc_eid=5935182a65
