The Obama Administration wants to maintain tough oil sanctions on Iran, convince Saudi Arabia to boost oil production so prices don't rise at the pump, and promote a dream of U.S. energy independence by exploiting new technologies for domestic production. That may sound like a good reelection strategy, writes Mathew Hulbert, but it is completely unrealistic as an energy policy.
