Intermittency amid low demand creates negative prices, study shows : Energy & Environment - World Nuclear News: Negative power prices have swept across Europe in the first nine months of 2020, with excess power in the market resulting in consumers being paid rather than charged to use electricity, according to a new study by European power market data analyst EnAppSys. European countries on average saw negative day-ahead prices almost 1% of the time (0.8% on average). These levels were typically three to four times higher than those seen between 2015 and 2018, and more than twice those in 2019.
