Call your senators TODAY about the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act
February 25, 2019Today the Senate will take up a long-overdue measure designed to ensure that newborns who survive the horror of an abortion are given life-saving medical care.
Sen. Ben Sasse, a Republican from Nebraska, introduced the bill, known as the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, S 311.
Here’s what Sen. Sasse had to say about it on a recent radio interview.
“This isn’t actually about abortion. This is about infanticide. It is true that if you took a pillow and you put it on the face of that baby and you smothered her to death, that could be charged with murder. But the way these babies die in these born-alive procedures is by the withholding of care – by leaving them cold and alone to die on that table. It is abhorrent.”
Abhorrent. Barbaric. Inhuman.
You may know that President George W. Bush signed the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act in 2002. That law addresses the same problem, but it merely defines the
child born alive as a person. The current bill goes farther than that,
specifying what has to be done, and providing penalties.Because abortionists are so good at covering their tracks, we don’t know how often this happens. But we know it does. I know people who have taken part in it.
When President Trump had a conference call with pro-life leaders recently, he had with him in the Oval Office – in addition to Priests for Life’s Alveda King –two women who survived abortion.
And when nurse Jill Stanek was working in Christ Hospital in Illinois almost two decades ago, she was asked to hold one of these babies until it died. I helped her get her story out, and she went on to testify in Congress about it.
Think about a baby – tiny, gasping for air – torn from the womb and left to die in a cold and unfamiliar environment.
Now call your senators.
This bill requires that if these babies are born inside an abortion
business that they be immediately transported to a hospital. Doctors who
let a baby die instead of working to save him or her will face criminal
penalties.Republican senators will vote for the bill. All but a few Democrats will not. They have a track record in Congress, and in the states. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had One World Trade Center lit up in pink to celebrate the Democrats’ passage of a law that will allow babies born alive to die from lack of care. Democrat Gov.Ralph Northam of Virginia explained on a radio show what a similar bill there would do – leave it to the baby’s mother what she wants to do with her newborn.
The newest tactic of the Democrats is to describe the newborn as a “fetus.” Sen. Tim Kaine, a Democrat senator from Virginia, recently wrote to a constituent about the Virginia bill. Here’s what he said: “This bill would establish new requirements for health care practitioners in the case of a fetus who survives an abortion.”
But once a baby survives an abortion, not even a Democrat can get away with calling him or her a fetus. That’s their attempt to dehumanize the child. Don’t let them get away with it.
Today’s vote will follow the annual reading of President George Washington’s 1796 Farewell Address. That begins at 3 p.m. and the vote will follow. You have lots of time to get a call in to both of your senators. Please make the calls now.
And please help me reach more people with this urgent call to action by spreading this email to anyone you know who may be interested in helping!
Thank you!
