Today, the Federation of American Scientists
sent a letter to the president, and to the House and Senate leaders,
highlighting the negative impacts of the partial government shutdown on
the United States research enterprise.
"At a time when aspects of our country’s research infrastructure stand
to be outcompeted by other nations such as China, we ought to be
energizing our research community, not slowing it down."
This is day 26 of the current U.S. partial government shutdown. The
letter describes setbacks faced by the science and technology community
and calls for the reopening of government.
The Federation of American Scientists is a nonprofit, nonpartisan
organization founded in 1945 with a mission to use science and evidence
to inform public policy.
