China deposits US$288M for dams

The construction of the Néstor Kirchner and Jorge Cepernic dams in Santa Cruz is finally set to begin now that China has deposited the first US$287.7 million tranche of funding for the massive US$4.71 billion project, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said yesterday.
Receipt of the money means companies can “start building what will be the most important hydroelectric project in the history of Argentina,” Fernández de Kirchner said, hours before leaving to China to lead a trade delegation in the Asian powerhouse that has become increasingly important for the country’s economy.
