Here is the text of the amendment which would prohibit the DOD from using funds to implement the Trans Regional Web Initiative (TRWI). TRWI is a program, funded through SOCOM that operates regional news websites in order to "combat extremism" among other objectives. The ability of the sites to actually achieve anything is doubtful and more fundamentally the DOD should not be in the business of operating newspapers overseas. For an example of the real problem with these websites, look at Central Asia Online which has a history of whitewashing human rights violations in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
