Sometimes "Robin Hood" taxes do more harm than good

Proponents of a "Robin Hood" tax on financial transactions say the policy would rein in high-speed traders without impacting long-term investors -- but that's not necessarily the case, writes Frank Holmes. A transaction tax in Hungary sent one of the country's main lenders into the red and led to anemic growth in the country as a whole, Holmes explains. "Hungary's example is a reminder to policymakers to comprehensively consider the rewards of collecting a Robin Hood tax along with the risks," he writes.
