Lowering the war ceiling
The America whose credit rating is in danger of being downgraded and where jobs are disappearing and infrastructure is eroding seems a different planet to the America acting as if multiple wars and occupations are its birthright, while lavishing trillions on the Pentagon despite the absence of a credible adversary. This half-hidden psychodrama makes the debt ceiling crisis seem as absurd as a five-legged cow. - Tom Engelhardt (Aug 3, '11)
