US backs Lagarde to head IMF The US has announced it is supporting Christine Lagarde to be the next head of the International Monetary Fund, meaning the French finance minister is almost certain to secure the job when the fund’s board meets later on Tuesday to consider the appointment. Russia also announced on Tuesday that it would be supporting Ms Lagarde.
