US and Iran Discussing Iraq

U.S. and Iran Discussing Iraq

The United States and Iran are holding a second round of direct talks to discuss Iraq's worsening security situation. Iran has repeatedly denied U.S. allegations that its operatives are fomenting the instability. In a recent op-ed, Cato scholar Ted Galen Carpenter argued, "It's now too late to stop the civil war in Iraq, but we may yet succeed in preventing it from becoming a regional meltdown. ...[Talks] must focus solely on preventing the violence in Iraq from spreading."
