Washington’s High-Risk Plan to Defeat the Islamic State

Washington’s High-Risk Plan to Defeat the Islamic State

The American Joint Chiefs of Staff has devised a comprehensive but high-risk plan to defeat the Islamic State (IS).   The plan will take several years, and will require what one Pentagon official described as, “strategic patience.”
“There will be no Shock and Awe here, no dramatic events. IS will be diminished one step at a time,” he explained.
While Secretary of State John Kerry spent the bulk of the last week lining up a new “coalition of the willing,” comprised of European NATO allies and leading Arab states, the US military plan relies almost exclusively on American air power, intelligence, training and special operations to bolster the Kurdish Pesh Merga and the regular Iraqi Army.
The plan also involves intense behind-the-scenes pressure on American Gulf allies and Turkey to shut down flows of recruits and funds into the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).  http://mebriefing.com/?p=1090&utm_source=MEB+VOL+45Subscribers+Campaign+Created+2014%2F09%2F14&utm_campaign=VOL+45&utm_medium=email
