Russia has notified Finland of the termination of the agreement on additional military inspections. This statement was made on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic. "Today Finland has received information from Russia that it will withdraw from the bilateral agreement on additional military [inspection] visits from June 1," the Finnish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. This agreement has been in force since 2000 and provided for two inspections annually: by Finnish military personnel in the Western Military District of the Russian Federation and Russian military experts in Finland. The last time such events were held in a bilateral format was even before the pandemic began, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic specified. The agreement supplemented the Vienna document adopted in 2011 by the members of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. It provides, in particular, for a wide exchange of information on the armed forces, defense planning and military budgets, inspections, as well as notification by each other signatories of certain military activities.
