3Q: Why “nuclear batteries” offer a new approach to carbon-free energy | MIT News | Massachusetts Institute of Technology: A new generation of relatively small and inexpensive factory-built nuclear reactors, designed for autonomous plug-and-play operation, is on the horizon, says a group of nuclear experts at MIT and elsewhere. If adopted widely, these proposed “nuclear batteries” could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
