How prophetic is this? "But ultimately he had his sights beyond the
current war. “We as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of
values,” he said. “A nation that continues year after year to spend more
money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is
approaching spiritual death.” King warned of a time of endless war, when
the U.S. would be trapped in one overseas entanglement after another
while the gap at home between the rich and poor grew
ever larger.”
Of course, the Ayn Rand cult, libertarians and Republicans mostly,
personified by Trump today, with its Nietzschean ideology celebrating
the übermensch, welcomes the gap growing ever larger between the rich
and the poor, but the “the symptom of a far deeper malady within the
American spirit,” was left untreated, and continued to fester, so that
it has come to pass “we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark, and
shameful corridors of time reserved for those
who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and
strength without sight.”
But try telling that to the vast majority of Imperial America.
