Two years ago, we shared Gedion’s tragic story with you, our global
family. Just hours after he was born, his mother started to hemorrhage,
and on the way to the hospital - miles away - she died.
In places like rural Kenya, when mothers die, their babies often also
die. Without their mother’s milk, they have nothing to eat. Gedion
desperately needed formula, but his father couldn’t afford it. Consumed
by grief, Gedion's father worried he would soon lose his baby, too.
When we shared Gedion’s story, you
responded. Gedion got the formula he needed to survive. He started to
gain weight, he stopped crying all the time, and day by day, he got
stronger and healthier. Today, Gedion is a healthy, happy toddler. He
loves following his grandma around the house and chasing after his older
siblings.
"Seeing my Gedion grow every day is a gift from God. Only God can pay you back for your kindness." - Sera, Gedion's grandma
This is what your love makes possible.
Your generosity
means that babies like Gedion get a chance at a healthy life. It means
access for mothers to pre- and post-natal care and safe deliveries by
trained medical professionals. And it means regular check-ups for babies
to ensure they are growing up healthy and strong.
