Germany’s New Global Role Berlin Steps Up
Germany's foreign minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier explains how his
country is stepping up to foreign policy challenges in the new era of
diminished American global ascendancy. https://www.foreignaffairs. com/articles/europe/2016-06- 13/germany-s-new-global-role? cid=nlc-fatoday-20160701&sp_ mid=51738926&sp_rid= cm1lYXl1QGNvbWNhc3QubmV0S0& spMailingID=51738926&spUserID= NTA0ODM0MjY1MDkS1&spJobID= 960109042&spReportId= OTYwMTA5MDQyS0
Over the past two decades, Germany’s global role has undergone a
remarkable transformation. Following its peaceful reunification in
1990, Germany
was on track to become an economic giant that had little in the way of
foreign policy. Today, however, the country is a major European power
that attracts praise and criticism in equal measure. This holds true
both for Germany’s response to the recent surge of refugees—it welcomed more than one million people last year—and for its handling of the euro crisis.https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/europe/2016-06-13/germany-s-new-global-role?cid=nlc-fatoday-20160701&sp_mid=51738926&sp_rid=cm1lYXl1QGNvbWNhc3QubmV0S0&spMailingID=51738926&spUserID=NTA0ODM0MjY1MDkS1&spJobID=960109042&spReportId=OTYwMTA5MDQyS0
