Flashes of colour in monotone routines of diplomacy
Sir, The purchase of ambassadorships by campaign donors is an American tradition it would be a pity to end, if only because it sometimes brightens the serious, if monotone, routines of diplomacy with flashes of colour (“Ambassadors who present their credentials in cash”, Christopher Caldwell, December 8).
