Carstens slams Europe over IMF Agustín Carstens, the leading emerging markets candidate to head the International Monetary Fund, has lashed out at Europe, accusing its governments of not playing fair over the fund’s leadership succession and failing to tackle their own debt problems.
Mr Carstens, Mexico’s central bank governor, is battling against Christine Lagarde, the French finance minister, to lead the IMF. Ms Lagarde is currently considered a shoe-in having already secured the support of several European countries, including the UK.
