Summary:
US Vice-Pres. Joseph Bidenā€™s visit to Pakistan on
January 11, 2011, continued to promote the agenda of US
withdrawal from the war in neighboring Afghanistan as
quickly as possible ā€" certainly within 2011 ā€" and
to replace its military presence with economic and
indirect military aid to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
As this Service has noted constantly, the US Barack
Obama Administration has long planned to replace direct
military involvement in stabilizing the Northern Tier
region by sending cash to the regional governments.
This process is now well underway.
