Navy secretary forced out by Pentagon chief over handling of Navy SEAL’s war crimes case - The Boston Globe: Defense Secretary Mark Esper asked for the resignation of Navy Secretary Richard Spencer on Sunday after losing confidence in him over his handling of the case of a Navy SEAL accused of war crimes in Iraq, the Pentagon said.

i don't know anything about Spencer's body of work as SecNav, but i very much respect his willingness to fall on his sword over this issue. It is rare indeed in today's US for any leader to take a hit for any issue of integrity or the morally right thing. i wholeheartedly agree with his para stating the profound value of obeying and following the rule of law and the importance of strict adherence to the UCMJ and keeping good order and discipline. Blowing that off and making exceptions bc we like a particular service member is dangerous and will be used by our adversaries to our detriment…
