Baby Cesar is a refugee
Dear Michelel T,

Baby Cesar is just a few days old, but already homeless. He doesn't know the challenges that lie ahead.

He was born premature just a few days ago. Five weeks early.
The doctor suspects that this was likely due to maternal stress. You see, Cesar's mother made the difficult decision to leave her broken home of Venezuela in search of a safe place to deliver her baby. Without access to prenatal care or a reliable health facility where she could deliver, she had to make a choice: stay and hope that everything goes well, or leave to find help.

She decided to make the dangerous journey to Colombia in hopes of finding a hospital and a doctor to deliver her baby safely. By the grace of God, she found a clinic and Cesar was delivered safely. Now the future is uncertain as Cesar's mother struggles to find a “home” away from home.

Baby Cesar is just one of the millions of children who are refugees around the world today.

Over half of the world’s refugees are children. Many will spend their entire childhoods away from home.
“One thing that perhaps people don’t consider, is that refugees don’t want to be refugees. They don’t want to leave their countries, they don’t want to abandon their homes and their lives. If they had the chance to stay home, they would.”
- Dr. Atilio Rivera, doctor at Cesar's clinic in Columbia
Dr. Atilio Rivera is a doctor who has spent much of his working life serving refugee populations around the world. Today, he serves at the clinic where Cesar was born. He described the situation for people here:

“They all lack the very basic human needs – food, water, sanitation, and shelter and a sense of safety and belonging. Refugees and migrants live in constant fear of getting sick because they do not have access to healthcare. They worry about feeding their children, and they worry about the future.”
Jesus said, "...show mercy and compassion to one another" (Zechariah, 7:9). Let’s remember those who are denied the safety and comfort of home.Your gift of $50, $100, $200, or any amount can help doctors like Dr. Rivera provide care where it's needed most.
