South American countries propose extending maternity leave to 6 months: The Andean Parliament has proposed that its members—Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, and Chile—legislate for 24 weeks of paid maternity leave, to protect women's employment and favor breastfeeding and maternal care of newborns.
