Global Health Ebola Update 2/4

EBOLA

Pleas, Pledges, but Where’s the Money?
Only about a third of the nearly $2.9 billion pledged to fight Ebola had actually reached the region by 2014’s end, according to research led by Karen Grepin, a global health policy expert at New York University.

Measuring only ** funds tracked by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) (http://jhsph.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0a43ad874dbe00d8f0545cfef&id=7a1f65819f&e=9c1fcebfa3)
, she provides a timeline of the funding pleas, pledges and actual flow of funds.

Although pledges from international donors since September 2014 have exceeded official requests, actual disbursement of funds “…still lags behind the total amount requested,” Grepin writes. She hopes that tracking funding data could prompt development of new mechanisms to speed up disbursements could help in future crises.
