Lt
Col Tony Shaffer talks to Michael Ostrolenk about how the Pentagon
needs to rethink the threat matrix and organize around present day and
future threats. He discusses how the Department of Defense is organized
around a cold war model model created in 1947 which is no longer
sustainable or useful. As part of the process of reform, he says the
Pentagon needs to spend a lot less money and spend it a lot more
efficiently. He lays out the present day and future challenges including
access to energy/resources, cyber-war, and the need to grow our R&D
base. Tony thinks we need to focus more resources on special operations
and cyber-space. Lt Col Shaffer is a fellow at the Center for Advanced
Defense Studies- http://www.c4ads.org
