The Year of the Drone

The New America Foundation has sponsored an analysis of drone strikes in Pakistan from 2004 to date. The study concludes that 158 reported drone strikes in northwest Pakistan, including 62 in 2010, from 2004 to the present have killed approximately between 1,087 and 1,679 individuals, of whom around 776 to 1,149 were described as militants in reliable press accounts. Thus, the true non-militant fatality rate since 2004 according to our analysis is approximately 30 percent. The report contains a very informative interactional map. See
