Well I have to say, it's always good to see Saudi Arabia putting their money into good use for a change - and Egypt surely does need this money at this stage. But this loan is clearly an attempt to expand Saudi influence into Egypt. Cairo is generally considered the capital of the Arab world and has alot of potential in being the most industrious country in the region. Saudi Arabia realizes this and they want to get Egypt on their side as soon as possible. They aim to establish something similar to what they tried doing in Lebanon; a new Hariri in Egypt that will, with Saudi wealth, spend on economic reform to gain social approval. Why does Saudi Arabia want this expanded influence though? Is it only orders from the US or do they actually have an internal plan for the region?
