The West’s Indifference to Africa
The West deserves a significant share of the blame for the Ebola crisis, according to Michael Specter in this though-provoking essay on post-epidemic blame.

The stark findings of the Ebola Interim Assessment Panel, commissioned by the WHO in March, emphasize that the world was behind the curve in its response to the crisis and dragged its feet rallying an emergency response. Specter notes that the findings “underscore, yet again, how little lasting regard the West seems to have for the people and problems of Africa.”

The Quote: “We in the West … managed to express hysteria at home while paying little attention to the people who were truly affected.”
