Netanyahu Gambles on His Survival—and the Special Relationship
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu took the biggest gamble of his long political career this
month, by staking his March 17 re-election campaign on a partisan speech
before a joint session of the US Congress. Working through former US
Republican Party operative Ron Dermer, his Ambassador to the United
States, Netanyahu arranged the invitation to address a joint session of
the United States Congress, on the pending P5+1 deal with Iran, with the
Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner,
bypassing the White House and the State Department altogether.
