NOBEL PEACE PRIZE Malala’s Win is a Gain for Global Health

Malala’s Win is a Gain for Global Health
Today's Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Malala Yousafzai and Indian children's right activist Kailash Satyarthi is not just a gain for education and children’s rights around the world but for global health.

The links between education for girls and gains in public health markers are well-established. (If you want to see a powerful documentary, see the film ** Girl Rising http://jhsph.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0a43ad874dbe00d8f0545cfef&id=5e2a4a83bb&e=9c1fcebfa3
, which clearly makes the connections between lifting up girls and breaking the cycle of poverty and improving public health.)

Malala paid dearly for her passionate belief in girls’ education when the Taliban shot her in the head two years ago. She became the youngest Nobel winner today at age 17.

She shares the prize with Satyarthi, who is honored for leading peaceful protests and advocacy efforts for child rights and an end to human trafficking.
