ISIL May Represent a Turning Point for the US Role in the Middle East

ISIS
The rise of the terrorist gang of thugs and butchers called the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) crystalizes in one single entity all the failures of the recent US Middle East policies and the vulnerabilities and miscalculations of regional powers. But this rise may end up being an opportunity. If anything could be credited with convincing the Obama Administration that being the “No War President” should never be a policy. No nation, particularly a great one, should turn its international role into such a presupposed subjective and narrow political principle. Any presidency should be first and foremost a defender of the national interests when it comes to foreign policy. Defending the national interest requires keeping all options open – seriously – and not abandoning some options at the outset.http://mebriefing.com/?p=1035&utm_source=MEB+Subscribers+Campaign+Created+2014%2F09%2F08&utm_campaign=VOL+43&utm_medium=email
