Iran Yet to Commit to Nuke Construction: Israeli Officials

Iran Yet to Commit to Nuke Construction: Israeli Officials

Israel's intelligence apparatus now generally endorses the U.S. position that Iran has not officially committed to assembling a nuclear weapon, though uncertainty persists over potential Iranian concealment of armament production efforts, multiple informed high-level Israeli government insiders said in comments reported by the Associated Press on Sunday (see GSN, March 16).
Iran would still pose a threat if it acquired sufficient weapon-usable uranium to construct a nuclear bomb in 12 months or less, rendering less significant its final decision to complete such a weapon, Israeli government sources said. Iran maintains it has never engaged in nuclear weapons activities and has consistently rebuffed concerns in Israel, the United States and other countries that elements of its nuclear program could support bomb development.
