In response to the perceived growth of Chinese military power, U.S. analysts have suggested closer alignment with Japan and India. On the surface, this approach appears similar to the containment strategy used against the Soviet Union during the Cold War. However, the dynamics of a potential India-U.S.-Japan relationship differ greatly from those that allowed the emergence of the Cold War-era alliance structure.
